Image metadata removerEN

Scan standard containers before and after re-encoding; enable download only after the checked metadata/profile containers are absent.

Image file
No image selected
Static JPEG, PNG, or WebP only · max 20 MiB · max 16,384 px/side and 40 MP.

Re-encoding effects: Animation is rejected. Metadata and color profiles are removed. JPEG/WebP are lossy; JPEG flattens transparency to white.

The selected image never leaves this browser.

How to use it

Use this before sharing a static image when common camera, GPS, comment, profile, or XMP containers should be removed.

  1. Choose a static JPEG, PNG, or WebP and review only the container names detected—sensitive values are not displayed.
  2. Create a same-format clean copy with orientation baked into the pixels.
  3. Download only after the second scan reports no checked metadata container.

Worked example

Input
JPEG containing APP1 EXIF/GPS and APP2 ICC
Output
Same-format re-encoded JPEG; checked container scan: none

JPEG is re-encoded at 95% quality; this is not a byte-for-byte lossless metadata edit.

Method and definitions

  • JPEG APP1/APP2/APP13/comments, PNG eXIf/text/iCCP/time, and WebP EXIF/XMP/ICCP containers are scanned.
  • Canvas re-encodes oriented pixels, then the new bytes are scanned again.
  • Download stays disabled if a checked container remains.

Limits and edge cases

  • Verification covers the listed standard containers, not unknown private chunks, steganography, or forensic proof.
  • Profiles are removed and browser color conversion can change appearance.
  • JPEG/WebP are lossy; animated or oversized images are rejected.
